How to find the CUPS number of a property in Spain (even without a bill)

Updated on 26/10/2026 · Voltaris, independent energy advisers in Spain

The CUPS is your supply point's licence plate: without it you can't change account holder, supplier or power. It is usually close at hand; when it isn't, there are three ways to get it.

What the CUPS is

It is the Universal Supply Point Code (Código Universal del Punto de Suministro): 20 or 22 characters starting with ES. It identifies your installation and doesn't change when you switch supplier or account holder. Electricity and gas each have their own.

The first digits tell you your distributor: for example, ES0021 is i-DE (Iberdrola group) and ES0031 is e-distribución (Endesa group).

Where to find it

Can you look it up by address?

There is no reliable public lookup: the CUPS is linked to an account holder and protected by data law. Websites promising to find it from an address alone are not official. If you have no bill:

Just bought or rented? Send us the deed or rental contract and we'll locate the CUPS and put the electricity in your name.
